Frazey Ford’s music is about renewal, strength, knowing when to breathe in and let go, trusting yourself, letting the waves rush over and appreciating all the things worth loving.
She will be coming to the Filberg Centre in Courtenay Friday, April 27.
The root of all soul music is freedom-sheer abandon. It’s about luxuriating in the emotions that make us all human. No wonder singer Frazey Ford placed her ear to the earth and tapped into that lush tradition to give voice to her own stories on Indian Ocean, an album about pain and dealing with tough truths but also about trust, love, contrition and being bold.
Gritty singer-songwriter Steph Cameron has been added as support for Ford. A one-time travelling musician and busker, Cameron’s musical beginnings can be traced to hitching train rides across the country, singing for her supper and channelling a raw punk energy inspired by life on the road. Cameron is based in Saskatoon, and has two releases to her name, Sad-Eyed Lonesome Lady (2014) and Daybreak Over Jackson Street (2017).
Advance tickets are $30 plus GST, available at Bop City, Riders Pizza in Cumberland and online at CumberlandVillageWorks.com. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show is set for 8 p.m.
