Traditional feast full of fun at the Parksville Conference and Community Centre

Child Haven organization is based on the philosophy of Gandhi. They're holding a fundraiser on Oct. 17

The 20th Annual Child Haven Fundraising Dinner will take place at the Parksville Conference and Community Centre on Oct. 17.

This year, the event will return to the traditional sit-down Indian vegetarian meal with a no-host bar.

Organizers say those who attend can listen to the sounds of Parksville’s Kumbana Marimba, browse the Indian marketplace and meet humanitarians Bonnie and Fred Cappuccino, founders of Child Haven.

Child Haven nurtures children in nine homes located in India, Nepal, Tibet and Bangladesh, and relies solely on private donations. The organization is based on the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, which does not recognize caste, promotes equality of the sexes, non-violence, vegetarian meals, respect for cultural/religious background and simple living.

Each year, hundreds of volunteers put on fundraisers like this in Parksville to raise money for Child Haven’s kids. The group says all of the money raised goes directly to the children.

Tickets are available at Amrikko’s Grill and Fireside Books in Parksville and Heaven on Earth and The Shoe Inn in Qualicum Beach. Admission is $35 for adults and $5 for kids 12 and under. For full table reservations (eight people), please call Cilla Lewenhaupt at 250-752-0968. Please visit www.childhaven.ca for more information.
