The Concert in the Park series is about to take you on a sonic journey, with Kazemon.
Shakuhachi bamboo flute musician, Alcvin Ryuzen Ramos and and multi-instrumentalist, Chris Bernetchez combine forces in a new genre-bending fusion ensemble that defies categorization using Japanese shakuhachi flute, wood and clay native American flutes, agave didgeridoos, and much more.
Kazemon (from the Japanese word, Wind Gate) is an exploration into space, time, and textures of sound. Deeply inspired by instrumental wind traditions from around the world and the spiritual quest, Alcvin and Chris creates sacred-spacial evocative sonic journeys using their flutes as well various gongs, singing bowls and percussion, vocals, and guitar for added texture and soundscapes.
Kazemon will perform July 20 at the Concerts in the Park series, in Hope Memorial Park. The show starts at 12 p.m.
If you miss Kazemon at the park, or if you would like to hear more from them, there is a second chance in Hope this weekend.
They will be performing a “sound bath” at the Hope Yama Dojo on Sunday, July 21, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
After 15 minutes of silent meditation, enter a sonic sphere for finders of deep relaxation, rejuvenation and introspection. A sound bath is a 60-minute sonic healing session that you can experience while resting comfortably in a deeply resonant, multi-wave sound space.
A series of various sonic tools such as Shakuhachi Flutes, Wind Gongs, Tibetan singing bowls, didgeridoos, bells, frame drums, harmonic vocals, and other natural sounds are played for you, each one intentionally focussed on the energy centers of the body, where sound is nutrition for the nervous system.
Imagine lying on comfy mats, with a blanket over you within this relaxing and resonant sacred space, while having your body bathed in exquisite sound for over 25 minutes. You have the balance of the hour to relax. The results are waves of peace, heightened awareness, and relaxation of the mind and body.
Bring your own mat or blankets and pillow/head support.
This event is first come first serve. The maximum number of people this event can accommodate is 25. Come early to settle in. The door will close right at 3 p.m. Admission by donation. Open to those 12 and older.
