The restaurants of Penticton’s 500 block of Main Street united to celebrate the wide world of food with Foodtopia 2019 on Friday, Oct. 11.

Restaurants invited customers to come down for some Friday night specials and to visit all of the restaurants to fill out their passport. Seven restaurants joined for the first year of Foodtopia; from Brodo Kitchen in the north end of the block, Smugglers Smokehouse, Accent Chocolate, Happiness Thai, Sushi Heaven, Craft Corner Kitchen, all the way to Tequila Vallarta at the south.

Cuisines from around the world were on display, from Thailand, to Mexico, to Japan.

Business was steady through the night. The Brodo Kitchen special, fried chicken and rosemary waffles, sold out within the first hour, while other restaurants such as Sushi Heaven and Smuggler’s Smokehouse were packed full of hungry customers all through the night.

Some people were drawn to the street to fill out their Foodtopia passport for the discount it offered, while others came with plans to hit every restaurant and sample their food. Live music played through the night, with Jeremy Head on guitar at Brodo, Max Zaitlin at Happiness Thai, and Mexican karaoke at Tequila Vallarta.
