Pieces of Eight is joining in song with the Kwantlen Chamber Singers on Wednesday Dec. 21 in the Rotary Hall of the Chilliwack Cultural Centre, for Twas the Night, a joyous celebration of family Christmas traditions.
“There will be well-known songs and carols, all tied up with Pieces of Eight flair!” says director and producer Nicola Davies.
They’ll be featuring everything from Silent Night to musical theatre in the cosy Rotary Hall. The concert will showcase the vocal octet’s eclectic range of styles, complemented by the talented Kwantlen singers, who are bringing to the stage some of their more light-hearted pieces along with Christmas favourites.
Kwantlen Chamber Singers is an auditioned ensemble that plans to travel to several high schools in the New Year to perform.
Pieces of Eight is a Chilliwack vocal octet that formed a few years ago specifically to sing an English madrigal. Fast forward three years and they have performed an annual benefit concert each year in Chilliwack, this past July raising a total of $1500 for the Ann Davis Transition Society.
The group chooses a new local charity each summer to support, and also performs at several events throughout the year. Their 2010 Christmas concert was sold out, Davies was happy to report.
At the Wednesday night show at the Cultural Centre, the two vocal groups will take to the stage together to present “a few selections en masse,” says Davies.
To round out the evening, concert attendees can show up any time after 7 p.m. to sample some complimentary apple cider and goodies from Nicola’s Cookie Shop.
