Twilight concerts return for another summer of music

Mission's Fraser River Heritage Park will host the 26th season on Wednesday and Friday nights.

The Envision Financial Twilight Concerts return to Fraser River Heritage Park for their 26th season on Friday, June 3. The concerts run Wednesdays and Fridays at 7 p.m. throughout the summer.

The concerts are a popular summer evening outing in Mission, and have become a place to meet neighbours, enjoy fantastic music and take in the beauty of one of Mission’s most treasured parks.

The inaugural concert appearance by Mission Secondary School opens the series on June 3. While the schools in Mission have performed at the series for many years, this will be the first time that MSS performs since the amalgamation of the three high schools last September.

Under the direction of music teacher Kim Grant, this band has already travelled to various music conferences and competitions in the province, recently returning with a silver medal from a conference at the Whistler Music Festival.

Grant has managed to blend the musical styles and experiences of all three schools and the result is a delightful recipe of sound. It is a perfect start to the summer music season.

On Wednesday, June 8, at 7 p.m., Hatzic Middle School makes an appearance in the park. Following in the footsteps of the strong musical tradition at Hatzic Secondary, Hatzic Middle School has proven that it can “keep up with the big kids” and put on performances worth watching. Under the direction of Julie Aldridge, HMS has had a great first year and looks forward to “rocking the park.”

The twilight concerts will again rely on the support of the local community, especially the Special Olympics team, who are present at every concert assisting in the parking area. The concerts are a true reflection of the spirit of the community of Mission. The series is free; however, donations by the audience ensure the ongoing success of the summer series.

The Full Cupboard, Envision Financial’s signature cause, will again be on site during four of the concerts. All non-perishable items and cash donations will be collected for St. Joseph’s Food Bank.

The first date for the Full Cupboard collection is June 29.

A full concert schedule is available on the Facebook page or by picking up a brochure at the concerts.
