UPDATE: Heritage Chilliwack Society celebrates Canada’s 150th with photo contest

Heritage Chilliwack Society launches photo contest in recognition of Canada’s milestone birthday; deadline for entry extended

Get out your cameras and smartphones. Heritage Chilliwack Society has launched a photo contest in recognition of Canada’s milestone birthday.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation; and the National Trust for Canada has chosen the theme “My Canada” to “inspire Canadians to embrace, explore and enjoy their own heritage places and spaces across the country.”

Keeping with this theme, Heritage Chilliwack Society (HCS) has announced its My Chilliwack, My Heritage photo contest.

Chilliwack’s built heritage is a reflection of its history and HCS is inviting people to explore their local neighbourhoods and capture their heritage in a photograph. They are looking for photographs of built heritage, such as houses, barns, and farm and commercial buildings.

The My Chilliwack, My Heritage photography contest encourages photographers young and old to allow the history and heritage of Chilliwack to inspire their photographs.

The contest is open to non-professional photographers of all ages. All photos must be taken within Chilliwack between Jan. 1, 2016 and Jan. 31, 2017, and must be accompanied by the contest entry form.

For full rules and entry form, go to heritagechilliwacksociety.wordpress.com/blog.

Entry forms are also available at: The Royal Hotel, Cornerstone Custom Picture Framing, and North South Military, or by emailing heritagechilliwack@gmail.com.

Prizes of $150 and $50 will be awarded in each age category with a total of $600 in cash prizes on offer. NOTE: Entry deadline extended to June 1, and photographs will be on display during B.C.’s Heritage Week, Feb. 13-18.

Winners announced on Canada Day.
