Canadian folk and country music legend Valdy is coming to Sooke.
He’s making a special stop in Sooke to perform on March 23, as part of his Canadian tour.
“Every town, village, farm, opera hall and community theatre is special, made so by the uniqueness of the audience. I’m lucky to be able to include Sooke in this year’s schedule,” said Valdy. “The fact that I lived in Sooke for the best part of three years gives it a special spot in my memories.”
Valdy’s solo career began in the early 1970s. He is best known for Rock and Roll Song, his first mainstream single released in 1972.
Valdy is the winner of two Juno Awards for Folk Singer of the Year and Folk Entertainer of the Year, and has received seven additional Juno nominations. His 14 albums have achieved sales of nearly half a million copies, four of which are certified gold.
He grew up in Ontario and is self-described as an entertainer, songwriter, singer, guitarist, bassist and music arranger.
“I have access to all styles and genres of music and song, and I make use of many,” Valdy states on his website. “With every set of tunes, I attempt to sing and play and connect well with whomever chooses to be in earshot.”
The concert begins at 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, located at 1962 Murray Rd. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets cost $20 and can be bought at Shoppers Drug Mart in Sooke, or can be purchased at the door for $25.
