Valley artists hold joint exhibit at Rollin Art Centre

New featured artists, Solstice Arts Festival, call to artists and more on this week's community arts column

Two talented and unique stylized artists will be showcasing their artwork, beginning April 6 the Rollin Art Centre in a joint exhibit. Rob Liboiron is an artist who dabbles in many mediums, and will be showcasing some of his carvings in soapstone and wood, pen and ink drawings and oil paintings.

Klaus Joehle, a mosaic artist, will showcase his collection of wall hangings, floor inlays, back splash mounts and much more.

Join us in the gallery, Saturday, April 8 from 1-3 p.m. for refreshments and to meet the artists. First 10 guests will receive a special gift.

BOOKS NEEDED FOR ANNUAL SALE

With only a month to go, book donations are low, so please drop off all your gently used books for our annual giant book sale. The Rollin Art Centre needs your help to make the sale a success. Drop off donations (newer books only) at the Rollin Art Centre, inside the main door, in the big wooden box. Pay it forward by donating all your books to our annual fundraising event. Thank you for your continued support. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The book sale is Friday, May 12 (6-9 p.m.) and Sat. May 13 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.)

CALL TO ARTISTS

What a better way of showcasing your artwork then with your very own art exhibit?

Every year the Rollin Art Centre puts out a call to artists to give you a chance to have your own art exhibit. We are looking for new and exciting artists to exhibit in the gallery while helping to bring more awareness of local art to the Valley.

We are very lucky to be surrounded by such natural beauty and such a vast array of talented local artists.

If you are interested in showcasing your artwork in 2018, then stop by the gallery for your application today.

Applications are open to all visual artists or artist groups.

TIMBRE! CHOIR

Be sure and get your tickets early for the Timbre! Choir concert “With A Song In Our Hearts”, on Sunday, April 30 at 2:30 p.m. at ADSS Theatre. This concert will include a wonderful cross section of choir favourites and will include a tribute to Canada’s 150th birthday. Timbre! is conducted by Rosemary Lindsay and will be joined by Danielle Marcinek on piano, Ken Lister on bass, Graham Villette on drums and Kiara McNaught on flute. Lots of home grown Port Alberni talent to enjoy. Tickets now on sale at Rollin Art Centre (cash only), Echo Centre, Finishing Touches, Salmonberry’s and choir members. Adults/Seniors $20 and Students (under 18) and Children $5.

SOLSTICE FEST

The Second annual Solstice Arts Festival-Days with the Arts takes place June 16 and 17. We are still looking for artists and artisans who would like to display and sell their artwork on the grounds at the Rollin Art Centre. If you are a painter, a sculptor, design jewellery, potter or any other type of visual artist, join us for this growing event. Table rentals are $60 for the free two day arts festival. Lots of activities are being planned, from live music to family art activities in the garden. Performances at: The Capitol Theatre, Art Matters and Port Day taking place at the new Tyee Landing, with shuttles running from the Rollin Art Centre down to Tyee Landing. Tables are limited.

PHOTO CLUB

The AV Photo Club invites you to photo presentation night on the fourth Wednesday of each month at North Island College. This small, but mighty club has a wide range of photographic interests and experience. They are non-competitive and ready to share knowledge and experiences. New members are always welcome, whether you are experienced or not. For more info, join them at one of their photo presentation nights at 7 p.m. in room S103.

MUSIC AT NOON

Join us for organ music and readings for Lent and Easter at Trinity Church, Fifth Avenue and Angus Street on Wednesday, April 5 at noon. Organist David Cox. Bring lunch.
