Swing into the Christmas season with Van Django, a gypsy jazz string quartet, and their toe-tapping holiday performance, Cool Yule, at the Chilliwack Cultural Centre.

With a mix of retro versions of classic holiday hits, jazz standards, and even some pop tunes and sing-alongs, they’ve made their list, checked it twice, and there’s something on it for everybody on Dec. 8.

Since their start in 1998, Vancouver group Van Django has shared their unique gypsy jazz style with audiences all across Canada, Europe, China, and the U.S. The group has released two albums: Tiptoe Tree, which has been played on multiple radio stations, and Waltz in the Shape of a Tree, which was released this April.

Inspired by the original Django Reinhardt and the 1930s Quintet of the Hot Club of France, Van Django is known for their rhythmic and original take on classic swing and jazz music.

The group includes violinist Cameron Wilson, guitarist Budge Schachte, guitarist and cellist Finn Manniche, and acoustic bassist Brett Gubbels. Vocalist LJ Mounteney and her smooth, bluesy voice will be joining the quartet on stage, as well as Vancouver harmonica player Keith Bennet.

The clan has performed together before, but this is the first time they’re bringing the show to Chilliwack.

Van Django’s Cool Yule is coming to the Chilliwack Cultural Centre on Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $35/adults, $32/seniors, and $30/students, and can be purchased at the Centre Box Office, chilliwackculturalcentre.ca, or by calling 604-391-SHOW(7469).
