Vancouver Island Short Film Festival creates youth mentorship contest

Young filmmakers invited to enter the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival's Pitch-a-Flick mentorship contest by Feb. 1.

The Vancouver Island Short Film Festival is inviting young filmmakers to submit their flick for a chance to win $1,000 and a mentorship opportunity.

The festival recently created the Pitch-A-Flick Short Film Pitch Contest for filmmakers 25 years old or younger in partnership with Knight Studio Productions.

Applicants are asked to submit a one-minute pitch video and script for consideration by Feb. 1.

The winning film will be screened at the Vancouver Island Short Film Festival matinee on Feb. 11. Any film genre is accepted.

“Our goal is to inspire and empower young filmmakers,” said Karla Duarte, festival director, in a press release. “By offering the chance to win production funding and a mentorship with an established filmmaker, we hope to spur the creation of a short film we can ultimately screen at the festival, but more importantly, we want to give a budding filmmaker the resources and support they need to follow their dreams and succeed.”

Rules, regulations and submission forms are available online at www.visff.com.
