The Vancouver Island Symphony host Symphony Community Days on Feb. 18 at the Port Theatre.

Vancouver Island Symphony hosts free family activities

Free family event includes a musical instrument zoo and a chance to watch the Vancouver Island Symphony rehearse.

The Vancouver Island Symphony is inviting people to its annual Symphony Community Days.

The free event is Feb. 18 at the Port Theatre.

Activities kick off with the musical instrument zoo from 11 a.m. to noon. During the instrument zoo attendees ages six and over can try out orchestra instruments under the guidance of symphony musicians.

Attendees can meet composer Marcus Goddard from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

From 12:30-1:30 p.m. people are invited to watch a symphony rehearsal. The rehearsal event is free but people must reserve their ticket by calling 250-754-8550 or by visiting www.porttheatre.com.

Attendees are asked to wear red and white to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary.
