Vancouver-based musician, producer and songwriter JP Maurice is bringing his debut solo album to Parksville.
Maurice will be playing at Realm Food Co. (180 Craig St., Parksville) on Sunday, Nov. 6. Doors open at
6 p.m. and the performance starts at 7 p.m. with dinner in between. Tickets are $20.
His album The Arborist reflects an artist who can take a bad day, a failed relationship or dark experience and forge it into an anthem, according to a press release from Maurice.
“I’m a pop music lover at heart. I love songs with a defined chorus and lyrics that are fairly emotional and based around melody,” he said of his music.
“I tend to write when I’m unhappy or sad and not feeling fulfilled. Sometimes it’s somewhat therapeutic.”
Late in 2013, Maurice released The Arborist and since then he has been featured in Canadian Music week, performed at North By Northeast, toured Canada and his music has been in regular rotation on radio.
Maurice’s fourth single off The Arborist is titled Poison Heart. He described the sad ballad as the “best song Taylor Swift didn’t write all year.”
After a summer of playing the festival circuit, writing and producing, Maurice has returned to his own studio to record his next, second, full-length solo album, tentatively entitled Retriever.
