Echo Nebraska, a Vancouver-based indie-folk rock band, will stop in Port Alberni during their spring tour.

On Sunday, April 24 the five-piece band will play songs from their debut EP, Send the Ships, at Char’s Landing.

“We have quite a bit of instrumentation on stage,” said Andy Schichter, guitar and keyboardist. “We have a fiddle for most songs, an electric guitar, an acoustic, different keyboards and percussion, it’s a very nice variety on stage.”

Inspired by classic rock from the ’60s and ’70s Schichter said the band’s sound has both vintage and modern influences.

“The singer and I were very drawn to late ’60s early ’70s kind of music, like The Band and Neil Young, stuff that we grew up listening to from our parents,” Schichter said.

“But then we also have our modern influences like Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear and Father John Misty.”

Since the launch of their EP Echo Nebraska have claimed much recognition in the Canadian music scene.

CBC Music put the band’s video for their single Hey, Allison on their list of best new music videos in November 2014. They were tweeted at by the Juno Awards who recognized their video as “colourful,” and they’ve had several favorable EP and live reviews from acclaimed music magazines and radio stations.

“It was nice how receptive people were when we first announced the band and the CD,” Schichter said.

This will be Echo Nebraska’s first two-week long tour. They plan to pack up a rental van and travel to various towns around the Island and other parts of B.C. sharing their soul strung acoustic songs.

The concert kicks off at Char’s Landing at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $13 at the door. Stop by Char’s or call 778-421-2427 to purchase tickets.
