Singer Dawn King has a love of life that is reflected in her music.
The Vernon-based performer has not only been receiving accolades for her debut album, It’s Time to Shine, she has taken the time to help others in need.
And this season is one of her busiest.
Seen as recently as Tuesday in front of the Vernon Square Safeway carolling with Deb White, of White House Mortgages, and Sun FM’s Brian Martin in support of the Kindale Developmental Association, King and her musical partner and husband Robert are preparing for a big New Year’s Eve show at the Schubert Centre, which will be the official release party for It’s Time to Shine, and a fundraiser for Vernon Women’s Transition House.
“For the past 12 years, this special evening of fine food and dancing has sold out. This New Year’s Eve will be even more special as we will include all the songs off the new album,” said Dawn.
As a musician and a life coach for more than 25 years, King says her reason for going beyond just being a performer is a reflection of her unquenchable thirst for life and her unstoppable desire to help people reach their potential and overcome barriers to happiness and success.
Lately, she has been writing a regular series for Canadian Musician Magazine, which helps fellow musicians to overcome a variety of career and performance challenges.
“Music has been a personal passion of mine since I was a child,” she said. “My hope is that these songs will make listeners laugh, cry and leave them feeling uplifted. I like to call it rockin’, poppin’ music that inspires people to live their best life.”
That is reflected in the songs off the new album, which have already resonated with listeners.
All the songs, except for one were written by Robert, and three of them were finalists in three different genres in the International United Kingdom Songwriting Contest.
In addition, Nothin’ But the Truth, a single off the album, was voted as the winner of the Emerging Canadian Artist Showdown, held by Kamloops radio station Country 103. It was also featured on the Smith Chevrolet Canadian Top 10 Countdown and hit national radio with CBC’s Song of the Day.
