Art lovers may be interested in learning about the history of the art scene in Victoria and the artists vital to introducing art culture in the city.

Join artist Robert Amos and Victoria visionaries, Herbert Siebner, Jack Wise, Pat Martin Bates and Walter Dexter, as they share their stories through a lecture series at the Eclectic Gallery in Oak Bay.

For 40 years, the Victoria Limners Society, a collective group of artists formed in 1971, proved to be a powerhouse of inspiration and exceptional art enriching the cultural scene in Victoria, and bridging the community to the global art world.

Painter Herbert Siebner is recognized for his bold gesture and rich colour. Mythology, dreams, poetry and sensuality are all components of his work.

Jack Wise is known for his calligraphy and believes in the importance and meaning of an individual brushstroke. Besides being an artist, he is also a teacher and poet.

Pat Martin Bates is an award-winning, international printmaker and referred to as the pioneer of the monoprint.

Walter Dexter is known as the pioneer of raku pottery, with his innovative techniques and high-fire stoneware.

The Victoria Visionaries Lecture Series with Robert Amos kicks off with Herbert Siebner and a lecture titled Modernism Comes to Victoria on April 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eclectic Gallery, 2170 Oak Bay Ave. Advanced registration is required.
