The story — based on the book by Joseph Stein with music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick — centers on Tevye, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his Jewish traditions as outside influences encroach upon his family.

He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters — who wish to marry for love — and the edict of the Tsar who wishes to evict Jews from their village.

This heartwarming show celebrates themes of family, friction between generations and the difficult choices that accompany emigration and assimilation.

Artistic direction is by Gordon Hamilton and Sheri Eyre, and musical direction is by Derrick Turi. Choreography is by Jordan Allarie.

Performances run at Brookwood Secondary School, 20902 37A Ave., Feb. 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17 at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 and are available on brownpapertickets.com.
