Students from Lake City Secondary School's various bands performed during a Winter Night of Music concert Thursday evening.

Families and friends of band students at Lake City Secondary School filled the school’s commons area last Thursday for a Winter Night of Music concert.

Under the direction of Ms. Laura Eilers the  school’s various bands performed  a roster of great music.

From the jazz band’s opening with Tuxedo Junction to the Tour Band’s closing of the evening with The Christmas Song,  and many popular seasonal hits in between, it was an opportunity for the students to share the efforts of their hard work through the school year so far.

Many of the pieces featured solos or duets.

Jazz Band student Tavish Wherley played a solo in Tuxedo Junction, while Jaylyn Johnson and Cosmo Brunsch played a duet in God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.

Grade 10 Band student Jacob Johnson played a solo in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with movie clips arranged by Nate Ives. In Baby It’s Cold Outside, Grade 10 Band students Maria DiMarco and Massi Calabrese played solos.

Just before the TourBand performed, Eilers said many of the students are busy with sports and other activities  as well as music but they make it work because of their dedication to the band program.

In Lullaby From a Distant Star, Jay Julius, Wherley and Kendra Lafleur played solos, while Wherley again played one in Haven’t Met You Yet.

During the Tour Band’s performance of Anne McGinty’s rendition of T’was in the Moon of Wintertime, Johnson and Alyssa Burns performed solos.
