On Thursday, Feb. 16, Steve Palmer will be bringing his country-roots music to Chilliwack’s Tractorgrease Cafe.
His solo acoustic show consists of favourite music gathered over his 50-some years as a working musician, plus original songs from his four solo albums.
Raised on gospel, country and the blues, Palmer began gigging back in the ‘60s in Edmonton. He currently lives in Gatineau Quebec.
Some of his early bands opened shows for Led Zeppelin, The Who, Eric Clapton and Cream, and several others.
Fifty years as a traveling musician is a lot of road, and Palmer is still playing and still touring. He’s grown enough to sing about life and simple pleasures with all the unhurried authority of a quiet and simple folk-singing road-survivor.
Palmer will be playing with the very talented Bruce Coughlan. At 7 p.m., Coughlan will open the show. He is well known for his work with Celtic group Tiller’s Folly and he will be featuring new songs from his upcoming album.
With a growing list of commissioned works and soundtrack credits, this composer/lyricist is a creative force of rare ability. Coughlan is a multifaceted talent and will undoubtedly be recognized as a great Canadian songwriter in the league of Gordon Lightfoot and Stan Rogers.
