Lone Spur’s easy listening music will be a delight to the crowd at the fall fair this year, Sept. 7,8 and 9.

It started off as a one night only performance, but three years on, local country music band Lone Spur is still entertaining local audiences.

According to Bryan Worrall, who is a vocalist and also plays guitar for Lone Spur, the group doesn’t plan on hanging up their instruments any time soon.

“We really enjoy it. We get together for practices and we have a lot of fun,” he said.

It all started in March 2009 when Worrall was asked to perform at the Grassy Plains Hall to support a fundraiser and he agreed to the one off performance.

When Ron Moore, who works with Worrall at his ranch, heard about the performance he offered to play harmonica. The word spread and when local resident and long time Lakes District News columnist, Hugh Neave heard about it, he asked to join in on rhythm guitar.

Worrall said the group was originally called ‘Bryan Worrall and friends.’

“We wanted to change the name because it was kind of hokey,” Worrall laughed, adding that the group unanimously decided on the name, Lone Spur.

They were then requested to play at the Fraser Lake Music Festival and local, Lisa Moore joined the group.

“Lisa is a talented musician. She plays electric bass guitar, fiddle and she has recently started with back up vocals. She is a real asset to the group,” Worrall said, adding that Neave has been playing guitar since his childhood and Ron Moore is a talented harmonica player.

“I have been playing guitar since I was 15 … I won’t say I am great at it, but music is something that I have always enjoyed,” he said.

He describes Lone Spur’s music as easy listening country, like Hank Williams, Johnnie Cash and George Strait.

Worrall said it depends on the audience as to what songs they like best, but said George Strait’s music is always a crowd pleaser.

Lone Spur has played at numerous community events including fundraisers at Quesnel and Fraser Lake as well as the Burns Lake and District Fall Fair and Music Festival.

This year will be the third consecutive year that Lone Spur has entertained the audience at the fall fair.

You can see Lone Spur play at the 69 annual Lakes District Fall Fair and Music Festival, which will be held from Sept. 7 to 9, 2012, at the Eagle Creek Fair Grounds.
