Pure and sweet to out-and-out-bluesy” aptly describes the vocals of Aberdeen-born Wendy Rae.
Her partner in music and in life, Enrico Francese, is a virtuosic guitar player whose abilities range from soulful and slow, to all out passionate and flamboyant.
Together they’ve created an acoustic duo known as Watermelon Moon — the result of two mainly self-taught musicians whose passions collided at a blues jam more than three years ago in Francese’s hometown of Salerno, Italy.
Now residing in Glasgow, Scotland, the International couple performs throughout the U.K.
This year marks their third trip to B.C. to participate in a songwriting workshop on Gabriola Island, led by renowned musician, Eric Bibb.
It is during these annual treks to B.C. that the seasoned performers have begun to establish a loyal, and ever-growing, local fan-base.
The past year has seen the duo record a four-song EP — Lights from Home. Tracks include their original songs Backwards, My Kind of Man, The Man Running, and Fully Grown.
One can’t help but wonder if the rugged beauty of the West Coast played a role in prompting Watermelon Moon to write such Fully Grown lyrics as, “Oh, let the trees stand, And the deep roots still hold, As life changes seasons, And greens turn to gold.”
Working to create an intimate audience/performer atmosphere, Watermelon Moon will bring their mixture of original songs and re-arranged covers with a blues-folk feel to Krause Berry Farms and Estate Winery on Saturday, Oct. 4 and Sunday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days.
Bring the family and enjoy a fabulous day of fun, delicious food and wines, shopping in the market, and the storytelling soulful music of Watermelon Moon.
