West Kelowna: Yamabiko Taiko headlines Music in the Park

Music in the Park at West Kelowna’s Memorial Park, starts tonight, Aug. 22, at 6:45 p.m.

Yamabiko (Mountain Echo) Taiko have brought stunning drum performances to the Okanagan since 2003.

Inspired by founding member Eri Uchida, this group has come a long way from homemade packing tape drums. Today, Yamabiko’s main purpose is to promote cultural awareness by sharing the beauty and spirit of taiko.

The lineup for Music in the Park at West Kelowna’s Memorial Park, this Friday, Aug. 22 is:

• Talented Kid: 6:45 p.m.—Lisa Schnitzler

• Opening Act: 7 p.m.—Rant and Rave

• Headline Act: 8 p.m.—Yamabiko Taiko.

Free, family friendly Music in the Park concerts take place every Friday from 6:45 to 9 p.m. through Aug. 29 at Memorial Park, adjacent to Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre.

Music lovers have enjoyed a variety of genres this summer, including country, rock, dance and classical.

Food and drink vendor services will be available throughout the event.

West Kelowna Recreation staff will also be in the park with supervised games and activities for the kids.
