Westside gallery opens for the season

Ashpa Naira Gallery’s first exhibition of 2014 is Abstract Break by a group of Okanagan artists.

The abstract and contemporary watercolour, acrylic and oil paintings in this exhibition represent a break from the traditional landscape or portrait that some of the artists participating are known for, said Ashpa Naira gallery owner Carolina Sanchez de Bustamante.

“Abstraction indicates a departure from reality when depicting an image in art. It is much more about feeling, and this departure can have different degrees of depth,” she said.

Featured artists are Lorraine Betts, Ria Carpay, Gail Dyer, Colleen Dyson, Colleen Faulkner, Diana Gritten, Angelika Jaeger, Ev McDougall, Marlene McPherson, Elizabeth Moore, Martha Moore, James Postill, Barry Rafuse, Gail Short and Katherine Upton.

The exhibition runs from now to July 27.

Ashpa Naira Gallery, located on the westside of Okanagan Lake, is open on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. or by appointment. Visit www.ashpanaira.com for more info.
