Earl Corliss Memorial
Earl Corliss is finally being put to rest, after passing away in 1995. The public is invited to attend his memorial and reception at the Fairview Cemetery on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. The service will be presided over by Chaplain Derry Bott, and attended by local cadets, RCMP and Earl’s family members.
A reception will follow at Royal Canadian Legion.
Celebrating Literacy
On Saturday, the 8th annual Celebrating Literacy Event will take place at Rupert Square Mall from 11 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome for the door prizes, free books and performances.
Author and storyteller Michael Kusugak will also be attending.
Shames Mountain fundraiser
The Shames Mountain Community BBQ and Fundraiser will be held on Sunday to raise money for the Shames Mountain Co-Op.
Running from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., children age 12 and under will receive a complimentary day pass and equipment rental. There will also be a BBQ by donation.
Tap dance
There will be a tap dancing show at the Lester Centre of the Arts on Saturday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at Cook’s Jewellers or the Lester Centre.
Steak Dinner
The Royal Canadian Legion is hosting a steak dinner on Saturday night, with tables at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.
For a cost of $17, you will receive steak and mushrooms, garlic toast and baked potato, caesar salad, dessert and coffee or tea.

Figure Skating Jamboree
More than 70 skaters from across the Northwest are participating in a fun competitive jamboree over the weekend, Feb. 24-26. The Prince Rupert Skating Club is hosting the event at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre. Anyone can watch, free of charge. The show starts Friday at 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m., and continues Saturday 8 a.m. until 6 p.m and Sunday 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Senior boys Rainmaker zones
With the other three Rainmakers having already completed their zone championships — and going two out of three in the process — the senior boys will take to the court this weekend.
The boys come into the weekend as the #7 ranked AA team in the province and first in the north.
The tournament kicks off on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Caledonia Secondary School, which is the only other team in the tournament.
Play continues on Saturday with a second game at 1p.m. The best-of-three tournament would continue at 7 p.m. on Saturday, if that third game is necessary.
Curling Bonspiel
Prince Rupert Curling Club will host its Mixed Bonspiel this weekend.
Play will take place from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon, with the finals taking place from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday.
Breakfast and lunch will be available from Mucho Gusto, and the Saturday night dinner will be put on by No. 1 Catering. There will also be prizes available.
