What to do in Rupert this weekend: Oct. 28-31

Happy Halloween Prince Rupert! There are many sporting and frightful events going on this weekend for the season.

The Library’s Novel Idea Fundraiser

Local artisans and food wizards have created projects for the Prince Rupert Library’s fundraising event. The donated items will be auctioned off on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Lester Centre for the Arts, organized by the Friends of the Prince Rupert Public Library.

Terror at the Cannery

It’s back! The chilling haunted house returns to the North Pacific National Historic Site, along with some spooky games and candy for the kids. For those who dare, they can enter the Chamber of Chills, a narrated walk throughout the creepy old cannery grounds.

The frightful event kicks off at 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Admission is by donation, cash only.

Pre-Halloween Atoms House tournament

The Atoms House League is hosting a pre-Halloween tournament in Prince Rupert this weekend. Nine teams from Rupert, Houston, Kitimat, Hazelton, Smithers and Terrace will compete.

Each team is guaranteed three games on Friday and Saturday. The quarterfinals, semifinals and championship game will all take place on Sunday.

CHSS boys soccer zones

Charles Hays Secondary School (CHSS) will host the boys soccer zones on Saturday at the CHSS field.

The team, which is made up of both seniors and juniors, will play Kitimat at 10:30 a.m. and Smithers at 3:30 p.m. Coach Simon Ruperto said the boys have a strong chance of coming away with the title, so you don’t want to miss that.

Minor Basketball

Minor basketball teams will be playing games this weekend at the Russell Gamble gym as they continue the start of the second half of the season.

Kids from Grade 3 through 12 will challenge each other on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday swim

The Earl Mah Aquatic Centre is hosting a pool party for children on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. for kids 12-and-under. A free swim for teenagers takes place on Monday, Oct. 31 from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. for ages 13 – 18-years old.

Community Hallowe’en Fest

The 29th annual festival falls on a Monday, but we thought we’d mention it here anyway since it’s Halloween! Rupert weather can be unpredictable so for families who want to spend the night indoors trick-or-treating this is the event for you.

Games, costumes, candy and more candy are promised at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre from 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. The costume parade begins at 6:15 p.m. and has categories for different age groups. Games will be along the lines of “Pin the Nose on the Witch,” “Donut Dangle,” “Monster Mash,” and “Guess the Pumpkin Weight.” A fireworks display kicks off at 8:15 p.m.
