From June 14 to June 26, Pynelogs Cultural Centre will feature an outstanding Solo Show by six diverse and exciting artists.
The artist opening will be held on June 15 from 7–9 p.m. and will be a great opportunity to chat with the artists and get a first look at the show.
Kelly McAteer was born in London Ontario in 1971 and was educated in Fine Art and Graphic Design at Sheridan College.
She says her paintings celebrate the playful wisdom of nature and through bold brush strokes of colour her whimsical interpretation create “happy paintings”.
McAteer applies many layers of hand-mixed acrylic paint to an image sketched on canvas and creates final softening embellishments using oil pastel.
Another artist coming from Sheridan College is Cathy Parkes, who now lives with her family in Invermere. Her artistic talent has been evident from childhood where she kept journals and sketches of local wildlife.
Her medium of choice is acrylic and she still uses a sketchbook and a camera to capture images of wildlife when she hikes in areas from coast to coast experiencing the beauty, colours, and strength of Canada.
Like the previous artist, Janice Edwards is another who is captivated by the beauty of nature. She enjoys painting dramatic landscapes and since leaving the relatively flat lands of Ontario, finds herself continually inspired by our valley’s Rocky Mountains. She prefers working with water media for the variety of results it allows her to achieve. Lately though, her adventurous spirit has led her to experiment with more abstract material and mixed media.
Lori Lees Stout’s interest in art was first piqued by witnessing her godfather’s artistic pursuits in her childhood.
She describes herself as very visual person and so prefers vibrant colours and strong contrasts.
After experimenting with a variety of mediums, she eventually returned to her original favourite which is watercolour because of its freedom and flow.
No matter the subject matter, vivid colours are a key element of Stout’s work.
Lisa Adams has an interesting process of altering a wildlife image on her computer, then working in water-based mediums on parchment paper, and finally incorporating it into a mixed media collage.
She feels that this technique is a bold painterly style, and she strives to reveal how human beings will always be inextricably woven with the forces of nature and the universe.
Kyla Brown is a photographer, artist, and writer who resides in Invermere and finds the Columbia Valley is abundant with opportunity to find inspiration for her art. She creates a line of greeting cards and also works on her own body of creative pieces called Honouring Life.
The Honouring Life pieces incorporates photos, writing, and even painting on antique windows and are a celebration of memory. Brown’s art creates a voice that can shout, laugh, or whisper, with resonating clarity.
These work from these artists guarantee a wonderful show and pieces you will want a closer look at.
We hope to see many of you around the gallery and at the opening. For any questions please contact Pynelogs Cultural Centre at 250-342-4423.
