The storied Canadian Brass are coming to Maple Ridge.
They are known as the first Western musicians to perform in China after its cultural revolution, when the group went there in 1977, and they’ve filled New York’s Carnegie Hall.
The ACT Arts Centre will present the internationally renowned and award winning band as part of the ACT Presents series on Saturday, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m.
With a discography of over 130 albums and an extensive worldwide touring schedule, Canadian Brass is a pioneer in bringing brass music to mass audiences everywhere. They have sold well over two million albums worldwide.
Veterans of concert presentations, Canadian Brass strives for an engaging stage presence and rapport with audiences. They are known for their formal black suits and trademark white running shoes.
Each of their concerts will show the full range from trademark baroque and Dixieland tunes to new compositions and arrangements created especially for them.
The hallmark of any Canadian Brass performance is entertainment, spontaneity, virtuosity and, most of all, fun.
The Washington Post called them “one of the most popular brass ensembles in the world.”
Canadian Brass is Chuck Daellenbach (tuba), Caleb Hudson and Christopher Coletti (trumpets), Achilles Liarmakopoulos (trombone) and Bernhard Scully (horn).
Daellenbach and Gene Watts first came together in 1970 to form a brass quintet – chamber music setting not entirely new, but never before having garnered the success and storied career would Canadian Brass achieve over the next 45 years.
With numerous awards and nominations including an amazing 16 Juno award nominations, and three Grammy award nominations and one Grammy win, Canadian Brass, has made unprecedented inroads for classical ensembles.
In 2014, Daellenbach was appointed to the Order of Canada, the country’s highest civilian honour, established in 1967 to recognize “outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the nation.”
Ticket prices are adults $43, seniors $40 and youth $15. They are available in person at The ACT Arts Centre at 11944 Haney Pl., over the phone at 604-476-2787 or online at www.theactmapleridge.org.
