Canadian concert pianist Janina Fialkowska will be performing at Westacres on Saturday.
Fialkowska started playing the piano at the age of 4 in Montreal with Yvonne Hubert. She eventually went on to study in Paris, France under Yvonne Lefébure and in New York at the Juilliard School under Sascha Gorodnitzki.
Her career was launched in 1974 when classical pianist Arthur Rubinstein, best known for his interpretations of Frédéric Chopin, became her mentor after a prize-winning performance.
Since then Fialkowska has performed with orchestras all over the world. She has received the honour of Officer of the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award in Classical Music as well as three honourary doctorates.
Fialkowska holds an annual international piano academy in Bavaria where she currently lives.
The Maple Ridge Music Society concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. on April 1 at Westacres, a 20-acre farm just at 23575 – 124 Avenue, Maple Ridge.
The music room holds 140 seats and looks out onto a beaver pond, surrounded by large cedar trees.
Fialkowska will be performing Frédéric Chopin and the program will include Polonaise in E flat minor Op. 26 No.2, Nocturne in B major Op. 9 No. 3, Impromptu No. 3 in G flat major Op. 51 and Ballade No. 2 in F major Op. 38.
