Yale Secondary’s musical theatre department presents its production of the Broadway musical The Wiz starting this weekend.
The production is a rollicking family-friendly retelling of the Wizard of Oz set to rock, soul, and gospel music and is famous for the Michael Jackson, Diana Ross version in the 1970s.
The story of Dorothy’s trip through the land of Oz with the Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion is familiar to many but this version brings an urban vibe to the rural tale of finding the strength in oneself to tackle the big problems in life.
The show takes place at the Abbotsford Arts Centre (2329 Crescent Way) on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 19 and Saturday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 and are available at the school office or at the door.
