Yellow Point Drama Group will present Grace & Glorie at the Cedar Community Hall this October.
There will be seven performances: three evening shows, and four matinees from October 2 to October 16. However, the October 16 performance has been cancelled as the province has booked the Cedar Community Hall for the impending provincial election.
Grace & Glorie was written by Tom Ziegler in 1997. The play follows Grace, a feisty 90 year-old cancer patient, has checked herself out of the hospital and returned to her beloved homestead cottage to die alone. And her volunteer hospice worker, Glorie, is a Harvard MBA recently transplanted to this rural backwater from New York. Glorie is tense, unhappy and guilt-ridden, her only child having been killed in an auto accident when she was driving. As she attempts to care for and comfort the cantankerous Grace, the sophisticated Glorie gains new perspectives on values and life’s highs and lows.
Grace Stiles is played by Patricia Zogar and Gloria (Glorie) Whitmore is played by Kim Rogers. Zogar and Rogers have been memorizing their roles for over a year, as COVID-19 cancelled the original show run of Grace & Glorie.
“It speaks to the things that interest me, like what life and death are all about, how we deal with it, is there a god, and what happens. I think that’s the kind of thing we should be thinking about,” Zogar said.
“I’m here to learn,” Rogers said. “Learn about what the script says, and learning more in depth acting. Doing a two person show is the biggest thing I’ve done before.”
Grace & Glorie was selected prior to the pandemic, however it deals with themes of loss, isolation, and human connection – topics that have gained new relevance in the era of COVID-19.
Only 40 audience members are permitted at the performances. Tickets must be purchased online in advance – tickets will not be available at the door. Audience members will be seated in socially distanced pairs.
Masks are mandatory until seated. There will be no food or beverages provided.
