Rising young country singer/songwriter Ben Klick will be rocking the Williams Lake Indoor Rodeo stage Friday at the Cariboo Memorial Complex and says he is thrilled to also be opening for Lee Dinwoodie and his band at the Saturday night barn dance.
Klick says his band performed in Williams Lake last year but this will be his first visit to the city.
“It will be good fun,” Klick says. “I am looking forward to it.”
The last year has been a busy one for Klick of Kelowna.
He has released two singles from his debut album Today with his current release Butterfly Tattoo playing well all across Canada and introducing him to many more fans.
“Today was written because of my family who have been supportive and there with me every step of the way,” Klick says.
He said he kept the song Today, for which the album is named, under wraps from his family until playing it for his dad for the first time during their final recording session in Nashville recently.
“Everyone was in tears,” Klick says. “It was a real family moment.”
Klick says he writes a lot about what feels true to him and his songs will be mixed in with cover tunes from his favourite singers which include Shania Twain and Brad Paisley.
Klick’s band includes multi-instrumentalist Ben Beveridge on anything with strings; singer Dave Favell on guitar, drummer Darrin Cherewyko, and Cyril Schermann on bass.
Klick says he decided to become a country artist when he was just four years old and his parents took him to a Shania Twain concert in Vancouver.
“My eyes were glued to the guitar player.
“At six I was given my first guitar and haven’t put it down since,” Klick says.”
After graduation, Klick took the one year audio engineering program in Kelowna.
When he isn’t playing, rehearsing, recording and writing music, Klick works for the Country 100.7 radio station in Kelowna where he is the face of country radio. He also makes ends meet working as a waiter at the Westwood Retirement Resort.
In October 2015 Klick was nominated for five British Columbia Country Music Association awards and in March 2016 he brought home five trophies from the North American Country Music Association Awards in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
It was also recently announced that Klick has made the top 10 in the provincial run for the CCMA Spotlight Performance.
The Canadian finalist will be given the opportunity to perform at the CCMA’s in London, Ontario at The Legends Show — one of the highlights of Country Music Week.
The Williams Lake Indoor Rodeo is one of the largest indoor rodeo events in B.C. and is held over three days with 225-plus competitors and is going into its 26th year.
Tickets for the rodeo and dances are available at the Indoor Rodeo office in Boitanio Mall.
