The Fraser Valley Symphony presents a concert titled “Pictures of ..” on Sunday, Jan. 26, featuring winners of the Young Artists Solo Competition.
The concert begins at 3 p.m. at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way.
Among the featured performers is violinist Chloe Kim, who will play the first movement of the Sibelius Violin Concerto in D minor.
She began violin studies at age four and over the years has won numerous scholarships and awards from local music festivals.
Last spring, she was awarded first place in the Senior Strings Category at the Performing Arts BC.
Playing the first movement of Beethoven’s Piano concerto No. 1 in C Major will be pianist Abigail Takenaka, who began playing at the age of five.
Currently completing her fifth year of study with Betty Suderman, she also has six years of violin lessons with Calvin Dyck.
Five years with the Abbotsford Youth Orchestra as a violinist and piano accompanist are included in her list of musical highlights.
Rounding out the program will be the Merry Wives of Windsor overture by Nicolai, and selections from “Pictures at an Exhibition – by Mussorgsky.”
Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and $6 for children (12 and under).
They are available at King’s Music and the Tourism Abbotsford Visitor Centre in Abbotsford, Claim to Frame in Mission and Act 1 Music in Langley. They will also be sold at the door, as available.
