Victoria singer-songwriter Sam Weber will soon cast a shadow on the road with the announcement of his debut LP, set for release Sept. 2.
Weber is actually hitting the road now, taking him across Western Canada on the release of his new compilation of songs, entitled Shadows in the Road, which were written over the past six years of touring and recording.
He stops to perform at Lorenzo’s Café in Ashton Creek tonight (Sunday).
The 21 year old has created a collection of 13 original tracks said to convey a powerful entanglement of emotion that encompasses the setbacks and uncertainties of life’s journey.
Already an acclaimed guitarist and producer in Western Canada, Weber is no stranger to the Canadian music scene, sharing the stage with the likes of The Tragically Hip, Current Swell, Stars, and Sam Roberts.
In 2010, Weber was awarded a summer scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, where many Shadows in the Road tracks were inspired.
After being offered a full-time scholarship, he decided to stay true to his craft and return home to Canada to pursue music on his own terms.
Weber’s instinctive move led him to be featured in Guitar Player Magazine, becoming one of the youngest people to ever be covered in the esteemed magazine, at just 19 years old.
“Infused with deep wit and wisdom, Weber’s output is truly impressive. His guitar work is also killer, full of nuance, soul and a truly unique voice. This is an artist built for the long term,” said Guitar Player editor Anil Prasad.
Weber’s soulful and impassioned songwriting takes life throughout the album with songs such as Don’t Hurt and the opening title track. The record’s feature track August lures fans in with an enduring love story paired with powerful drumbeats and Weber’s effortless vocals.
Directed by Vancouver’s Lau Tin Pak and shot in a beautiful rustic black and white setting, the heart capturing video for August premiered this week on Daily Motion.
