Cadet Sergeant Allan Faulkner, 16, from 2887 Rocky Mountain Rangers Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) in 100 Mike House acted as the Platoon Warrant for a cadet guard of honour at an important naval ceremony at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt in Victoria recently.

Faulkner is spending his summer at Albert Head Cadet Training Centre (CTC) as a staff cadet for the Fitness Instructor Course.

Albert Head CTC is an Air Cadet Training Centre that opened its door to Sea and Army cadets this year. The centre was asked to provide a cadet honour guard for a Change of Command Parade at the nearby naval base of CFB Esquimalt.

The cadets lined the route that the Admirals, Lieutenant Governor, First Nations Chief and other dignitaries took to the ceremony held in front of a naval vessel. The cadets, who come from all over British Columbia and the Prairies, are taking the Fitness and Sports Instructor Course for which Cadet Faulkner is one of the instructors.

This whole summer is a great opportunity for me,” says Faulkner with a smile.

Helping run the sports instructor means I have a chance to better other’s lives; and as hard as it will be, it will always be worth it.”

Cadet Sergeant Faulkner, who attends Peter Skene Ogden Senior Secondary, has been a cadet for more than three years and spends much of his time involved in the various cadet activities.

He also enjoys playing guitar and has a passion for fitness, which makes him excellent for his position at Albert Head CTC.

More than 3,400 Sea, Army and Air Cadets are participating in summer training activities across B.C. this summer. Other cadets have had the opportunity to travel across the country and even overseas. To find out more about the Cadet Program visit www.cadets.ca or follow us on Twitter @BC_Cadets.
