Inspired by the surrounding Green Timbers forest, patients stepping through the glass sliding doors of the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre (JPOCSC) in Surrey are instantly transported to a world where healing and the environment co-exist.
Awarded the LEED Gold certification by the Canada Green Building Council (CGBC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), building rated as particularly green. Administered by the CGBC to encourage and accelerate the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings, LEED promotes a sustainable future in building design.
The centre earned this designation by being innovative with how outpatient services are delivered, by contributing to a culture of sustainability and by reducing its carbon footprint.
Highlights of the project include:
• A state-of-the-art building control system that optimizes mechanical and electrical systems for minimum energy use;
• Rain water that is harvested for landscape use and results in a 50 per cent reduction in water consumption; and
• New software programs used within the building help facilitate a paper-light philosophy, reducing paper files, paper charts and paper usage throughout the building.
