Vicci Nelson
Principal Alexander Park School
On behalf of the staff of Alexander Park School, I would like to extend a warm “welcome back” to all of our students and parents with a special greeting to new students and to our beginning kindergarten children.
Every year it amazes me at how quickly a school is up and running.
From the first day, teachers were getting things underway for the year, welcoming students into their classrooms and making them comfortable in their new settings.
Students have already learned many of the classroom routines and expectations, adjusted to their new classrooms and teachers, made new friends as well as getting reacquainted with old ones. Parents play a crucial role during these first few weeks by providing the reassurance that children need in order to feel secure as they transition into a new school year.
A primary school is a busy place so it is important that parents stay abreast of the school’s activities and events by reading the class newsletters and the school newsletter, the “A.P.E.S. Chatter” or through our website, www.sd6.bc.ca/apes.
On Friday, September 21, beginning at 10:45 a.m., we have Family Walk and Read morning. Parents are invited to join us on our school wide walk, and then stay to spend time reading with your child. If you have the time, stay a little longer and join your child for lunch.
The first Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting of the year is on Wednesday, September 26 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to be active in their child’s education as research shows that children’s success at school often improves when their parents are involved in their education.
So, please take the time to attend and find out more about your child’s school.
Lastly, I would like to remind parents to keep in touch with us here at the school when you have concerns or simply wish to discuss your child’s education.
The close cooperation between home and school contributes significantly to creating a positive learning environment for children.
The staff at Alexander Park look forward to our students’ parents continued interest, support, and involvement in their child’s education.
