The Greater Victoria Housing Society has a tasty way to support local housing initiatives.
The society is hosting a benefit event, A Matter of Taste, at Oak Bay’s Victoria Golf Club Saturday, Sept. 19.
The second annual event features tastings of fine scotch, cognac, wines and other libations, a variety of high-end cigars, plus exquisite chocolates from around the world, complemented by sumptuous food pairings and hors d’oeuvres.
A silent auction of luxury-inspired items rounds out the evening.
“We were pretty sure we had a concept for an event that was slightly different from other fundraising events in town,” says Scott Garman, GVHS board member and A Matter of Taste organizer.
“In the first year, we started out with a whisky-and-cigar tasting event. This year, we decided to broaden the tastings to include fine wines, local ciders and premium beer, and have experts on hand who can talk about the different products. We’re taking the whole tasting idea and making it attractive to as many people as possible.”
All proceeds from A Matter of Taste benefit the Greater Victoria Housing Society – a non-profit, charitable organization founded in 1956 that is dedicated to providing quality, affordable housing to low-income seniors, families, and people with disabilities, in neighbourhoods across Greater Victoria.
The event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $165, which includes charitable tax receipt for a portion of the ticket price, and are available at www.amatteroftasteforgvhs.eventbrite.ca
