Get your families ready for our annual South Surrey Festival and Safety Fair being held this year at Bakerview Park (1845 154 St.) on July 13.
This year we celebrate the multicultural community we live in and are partnering with the Surrey RCMP to provide a wider scope of information and participation for our community.
We have an amazing day planned, starting at 11 a.m. on our main stage with a Semiahmoo First Nations blessing.
The day will be filled with entertainment, food vendors, artisans, a kids’ bike parade, senior safety, seniors’ tea, the RCMP Safety Bear, family activities and much more.
The day ends with the Ocean Park Whalers band rocking the families into the late summer afternoon with their renditions of everyone’s favourite tunes.
Plan to be there and tell your friends.
• We have been celebrating in our Intergenerational Therapeutic Garden with a variety of programs for all ages.
The 55+ Badminton group were the first to pull out the barbecue for their annual mini-tournament and barbecue luncheon. Seventy-two hungry players and spouses enjoyed the delicious variety of burgers and salad provided by their club.
Pre-schoolers and parents had a visit and lesson in plant varieties and to see the benefits of working with raised garden beds when you have limited mobility.
We kick off our summer garden programs with a Preschool, Gardening-Watch it Grow, on July 5 and Music in the Garden on July 17 and August 12.
• Don’t forget about our other Kids’ Camps that offer a summer filled with busy activities and fun for your children.
Whatever your age, we can keep you fit and busy with challenging classes, so don’t stress about not being busy this summer, just come down to the rec centre and sign up for some fun.
Pick up your Summer Guide at the centre or go online to www.surrey.ca/register
• Our regular 55+/ adult drop-in fitness, yoga, badminton, and pickleball programs are running all summer with small changes due to the renovation and space issues.
