Active Life: Activity guide full of family programs

NANAIMO – Parks and recreation's spring and summer activity guide is available from city centres and online.

As I write this, there is light snow coming down and leaving a white blanket on the beautiful grounds of Bowen Park. It says it’s March on the calendar, but it still feels like December. I know spring is around the corner, though, because the new Spring and Summer Activity Guide is here and it’s full of programs to keep you and your entire family active for the warmer months ahead. Here are a few new programs you may want to consider:

Bumbling Bees (ages 6+) – Learn about the 20 different bumblebee species found on the Island and how you can help reverse the declining bee population.

Take a Hike for Families – Parents and children will discover spectacular local hiking areas while learning about the mysteries and history of some of these parks.

Ultimate Frisbee (ages 11-15) – Participants will be taught the basics of this exciting sport, and all equipment is provided.

Floral Design Corsages and Boutonnieres (ages 15+) – Learn how to create your own floral masterpieces for your prom, wedding or other special occasion from an award-winning floral designer.

Creative Pasta– Make pasta using a variety of grains, and try using beets, spinach and herbs to create pasta with a variety of fillings.

Cardio Chisel – This “do it all” class with cardio and strength components will get your heart pumping and your muscles toned.
