Our brand new summer programs got off to a great start.
Summer Blast, a drop in for children and their parents/caregivers runs every Tuesday, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
We have new activities every week, as well as snacks and adventures on the beach.
We’ve created photo frames, checkerboards, rock creatures and spent one afternoon on tie-dye mania.
The kids are having a ball, and so are our great team of leaders and volunteers.
No registration is required, so feel free to drop in and join the fun.
• Wednesday’s Community Fun Nights have been a real blast as well.
We kicked off the season with mile-high make your own sundaes and other ice cream games at Alexandra Park.
We’ve also enjoyed a beach-side community picnic and an outdoor movie under the stars.
We have more awesome activities planned for the rest of the season, including our own Olympics, a crazy scavenger hunt and another movie night (The Muppets!) These nights are designed to be fun, low-cost events, where neighbours can come together and enjoy some fun here at camp.
Go to our website at www.alexhouse.net for the weekly schedule, or check our Facebook page for updates. (AlexhouseBC).
Everyone is welcome and there’s a new activity each week. Bring your friends, your family and your neighbours and join us in celebrating some of what makes summer great.
• The word is out, and every week more kids ages 5-12 are coming to our Play Away day camps by the beach.
We still have some room in August for ‘The Show Must Go On’, ‘EcoKids’, ‘Wild Things’ and ‘Ooey-Gooey Art’. Camps run Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and before and after care is available 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Do your kids need a summer counsellor to pick them up from lessons and bring them to day camps? Two or more kids? Need help with fees? For details and registration, please call 604-535-0015, ext 229.
• Alexandra Family Place drop-in is a program for parents with children birth to six years.
Connect with other parents while your children explore, create, imagine, move and play!
The drop-In continues all summer on Thursday mornings from 10-12:30. For more info call 604-535-0015, ext 229.
• On Aug. 23, join local artist Ellen Bradley-Cheung for a fun, creative evening painting in the garden at our Starry Night Fundraiser.
No experience is necessary and paints, canvas, help and encouragement are all provided.
Wine and cheese will be available all evening.
Tickets are on sale now at the camp office, in person or by calling 604-535-0015, ext 233.
• The sun is out and we’re all heaving a sigh of relief because it means our rec hall roof isn’t leaking!
In order to fix this roof, which usually keeps our 91-year-old building dry, we’re holding a “Raise the Roof “ fundraiser at the Crescent Beach Legion Saturday, Aug. 25.
Mojo Zydeco and Blues Caboose will provide the entertainment, and infamous Alexandra Festival MC, Henri Wendel, will act as MC.
We’re going to have a silent auction and the Legion will hold its usual 50/50 draw, graciously agreeing to donate the proceeds to our fundraiser.
Tickets are $20 and are available through Mojo Zydeco, the Crescent Beach Legion and the camp.
Dinner will be available for purchase.
It will be a really fun evening, so come out and help us preserve this heritage building.
• Our new Reggio Emilia inspired Crescent Beach pre-school for children ages 3-5 will be opening at Alex House in September.
