ALEX HOUSE: Winter programs are coming

Two new exercise programs are on tap at Alexandra House this winter

Autumn has been a blast at Alex House, and winter is now knocking at the door.

Stay warm with two new programs designed to help you keep moving. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., instructor James Zhang leads Tai Chi. Join in this gentle martial art, which improves flexibility, balance, and health.

And for those wanting a different approach, Middle Eastern Dance will get everything moving Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. in Alexandra Hall. Drop-in fee is $2.

Do you have an idea for a class, event, or program? Call Neil at 604-535-0015 ext 236.

• What an amazing Halloween night!

We had the privilege of frightening almost 3,000 happy Halloween haunters who dared to experience “Cabins in the Cornfield.”

A huge ‘thank you’ to everyone involved in putting on this year’s harrowing Hallowe’en event. It was a vision brought to life by haunt directors and volunteers Robert Doolan and Dean Donnelly, who exemplify the meaning of ‘for the community, by the community.’

• Our Vine Avenue Youth Collective is a diverse group of youth ages 13 to 24 who want to establish a safe, sober place for youth in our community.

It will be led by youth and will be a place where they can connect, gain life, leadership and employment skills, plan events and activities, get help with personal problems, inspire and be inspired, and connect with community.

They have been working hard to get this project off the ground. They have identified potential locations, started to fund-raise, and have qualified for the semi-finals of the Aviva Campaign.

Learn more about Aviva and vote in December at www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf19614. They meet Thursdays, 4-5 p.m., at 15455 Vine Ave. For more, call Jessie at 604-538-5060 ext 25.
