Lisa Fraser of Surrey has been recognized for her industrial design work the annual Carter Wosk BC Creative Achievement Awards for Art and Design and the BC Creative Achievement Award of Distinction.

The 2013 Carter Wosk Creative Achievement Awards for Applied Art and Design awards were handed out by Premier Christy Clark and British Columbia Achievement Foundation Chair Keith Mitchell at Shaw Studios in Vancouver.

“This year’s award recipients demonstrate remarkable creativity, originality and energetic entrepreneurship,” said Clark. “Their applied art and design skills help to make British Columbia’s creative industries among the best in North America.”

The Creative Achievement Awards honour B.C. artists whose work is judged to be innovative, original and creative while having a practical function,” Mitchell said. “The recipients this year include emerging artists and designers in the early stages of their careers and those who have been applying their talents and skills for some time and have been internationally recognized.”

The 2013 jury included Sam Carter, professor emeritus at Emily Carr University of Art and Design; Doug Coupland, one of Canada’s major creative contributors; Patricia Fieldwalker, fashion designer and 2007 BC Creative Achievement Award for Applied Art and Design recipient and Allan Collier, design curator and historian.

The Carter Wosk British Columbia Creative Achievement Awards for Applied Art and Design are named in honour of B.C. philanthropist, academic and visionary Dr. Yosef Wosk, whose financial support makes the awards possible and for Sam Carter, B.C. educator, designer and curator.

The British Columbia Achievement Foundation is an independent foundation established and endowed by the Province of B.C. in 2003 to celebrate community service, arts, humanities and enterprise.
