Once again, the Kay Hogg Goodwill Group of the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary is hosting the Joy of Music fundraising concert at the Coast Capital Playhouse, 1532 Johnston Rd.
Over the years, this concert has showcased local entertainers, both new and established, groups and individuals.
This year, music fans will hear a first-class concert featuring both Double Deuce and Semiahmoo Secondary’s Senior Jazz Band.
Double Deuce – with members Matt Yorkston, Rick Smith, Dan Evans and Jerry Potter – is a male a cappella quartet. Each member brings years of singing experience to the group and, since forming Double Deuce in 1998, their repertoire has evolved from barbershop beginnings through to contemporary harmonies. These men have a great rapport with their audiences and are sure to please.
Semiahmoo Secondary has a long tradition of an award-winning music program.
All students and staff of the Semiahmoo music program have had a great year. Music students from grades 8-12 participate in competitions and performances and have won awards in many categories.
This years’ Grade 12 jazz band carries on that tradition. Led by musical director Kevin Lee, the band has entered a number of competitions, including the Envision Jazz Festival of 2013.
You will be struck by their professionalism and big-band sound.
The Joy of Music will take place Friday, Nov. 1. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7. Complimentary refreshments will be served at intermission, and door-prize draws are also included.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Peace Arch Hospital Gift Shop.
In addition to the concert, the Kay Hogg Goodwill Group is holding its Goodwill Raffle.
All prizes have been generously donated and include a pair of round-trip tickets anywhere WestJet flies as first prize. Second prize is a beautiful handcrafted quilt and third prize is a $125 gift certificate for Walmart.
Tickets for the raffle are $5 each. The draw takes place at the Nov. 1 concert in a “reverse draw” format. Only 800 tickets will be sold.
