Lace up for one of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Langley’s most important fundraising events of the year.

The 37th annual Bowl for Kids Sake, taking place April 8 and 9 at Willowbrook Lanes, will raise much needed funds for the non-profit organization, which receives no direct government funding.

Last year’s event raised $25,000, with every dollar going towards their child and youth mentoring programs.

Big Brothers Big Sisters research shows that children who have been mentored have higher self-esteem and are more likely to stay in school — empowering them to succeed, give back and realize their true potential.

As part of a national initiative, the Bowl for Kids Sake event includes two hours of bowling, chances to win prizes, refreshments and an opportunity to make a difference in the community.

There is also a costume contest on both days, with prizes for the most creative.

This year’s theme is “be a good sport” to honour mentors who show good sportsmanship in the time they devote to volunteering.

To register a team for fundraising, visit bbbslangley.com, call 604-530-5055 or email admin.langley@bigbrothersbigsisters.ca. Bowling sessions are at 5 p.m. on April 8 and 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on April 9.
