The Burns Bog Conservation Society’s president is back at it again, receiving another award. On May 25, society president Eliza Olson received a BC Community Achievement Award at Government House in Victoria.

“Each one of the award recipients honoured today has made a lasting contribution to their communities and represents the best of British Columbia,” said MLA and Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development Peter Fassbender. “Their example teaches us what can be accomplished if we work together and their contributions and leadership inspire us all. It is a privilege to recognize their achievements.”

Olson is known as the “saviour” of Burns Bog as well as the “boglady” to many.

Last October, she received an honorary doctorate degree from Kwantlen Polytechnic University for her endless efforts protecting and championing the importance of Burns Bog, and working with Kwantlen Polytechnic University students.

She is the first and only president of the Burns Bog Conservation Society in its 27 years.

Olson created environmental education programs for people of all ages. She promotes multiculturalism through Society events such as the Pilgrimage to the Bog, and encourages people of all ages to go out and explore nature at events like “Jog for the Bog.”

She demonstrates through words and actions that she is dedicated to protecting the “Lungs of the Lower Mainland.”

Winners of the BC Community Achievement Awards received a medallion designed by B.C. artist Robert Davidson, as well as a certificate. All winners are posted on the BC Community Achievement Foundation website.
