I’ve been asked to do a series of garden lectures/workshops at Bylands Garden Centre this year and I am delighted to do so.
By next week, we should have the schedule made up to include topics such as starting seeds and cuttings at home, grafting and budding in the home garden, pest and disease management for the home gardener and home garden pruning.
I will keep you posted on this and Bylands will have it on their website as well.
I will also be working with the Master Gardeners program this fall teaching the woody ornamental portion of the curriculum.
Becoming a master gardener is definitely something anyone who has a real passion for gardening should consider.
That certification takes your gardening experience to another level.
There are three orientation meeting dates set up for those interested in taking the course this year:
• Saturday, March 22, 1 to 3 p.m.
• Saturday, March 29, 1 to 3 p.m.
• Saturday, April 5, 1 to 3 p.m.

I would like to thank the organizers of the celebrations at Central School on Saturday, Jan. 11.
What a blast I had wandering through the halls of a school I attended over 50 years ago.
I especially enjoyed running into Rick and Dianne Kelly.
Rick and I first met when we attended Central in Grade 4 with Mrs. Sinclair. And guess where we bumped into each other—that same classroom.
It doesn’t matter if you attended the school or not, the heritage classroom set up for visiting is open five days a week and I recommend you check it out.
Set up like a one room school house, it has all the books, desks, black boards, and other paraphernalia such as the infamous “strap.”
Sig Ottenbreit is the official curator of the schoolhouse display and he is doing a stellar job of it.
