Campbell River Army Cadet Skyler Kaplanchuk spent a week at Vernon Cadet Training Centre March 14-21 testing himself against 15 other cadets in an attempt to earn one of five positions on the prestigious Army Cadet Parachute Course held each summer in Trenton, Ontario.
Under the watchful eye of Major Ken Prince, who wears the jump wings on his uniform, the cadets endured long days of push ups, route marches with full packs, log carries and leadership tests to determine who would attend the course.
Cadet Kaplanchuk is a member of 2943 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps, Campbell River.
The Cadet Program is a national program for young Canadians aged 12 to 18 who are interested in participating in a variety of fun, challenging and rewarding activities while learning about the sea, army and air activities of the Canadian Armed Forces.
