Candidate proud to represent North Thompson Valley at the BC Ambassador Program

Barriere teen excited about participating in 2013 BC Ambassador program

By Kayla Dawn Holowaychuk

I represented the North Thompson Valley with dignity and pride at the British Columbia Ambassador Program August 16 and 17, in Merritt, B.C.

The program is available to any young man or woman age 17-24 who has held a royal or Ambassador Title in British Columbia. This scholarship program allows the youth of the province to follow their post-secondary passion and awards candidates with tuition bursaries.

I was fortunate to receive a $500 bursary to Thompson Rivers University for my Tourism Management Diploma. I also received a medallion for being in the top five for sponsorship.

I would like to thank everyone for all of their support, I would not have been able to complete this journey without you. I would like to congratulate my fellow candidates on a job well done representing their communities.

To the three crowned British Columbia Ambassadors; Lauren Sherwood representing Osoyoos, Casey Helgason from Kamloops, and Camelia Vokey from Penticton, I am proud of you all for your hard work and dedication to the program.

It was absolutely incredible to get to know all 10 candidates.  Each individual received a medallion and bursar money, it was a very tough decision for the judges as each candidate performed exceptionally well. To the British Columbia Ambassador Team of 2012, Carley Henniger from Trail, Mariah Morris from Castlegar, and Acacia Schmietenknop from Kamloops, you three ladies represented the province of B.C. and your home communities with pride. I am so grateful to have known you and to become inspired differently by each of you.

I am very proud to have this opportunity and I will never stop believing in my dreams and reaching for the stars. With my family beside me and my heart in the right spot I will concur my greatest aspirations. My week in Merritt was spent with so many amazing individuals whom I have had the pleasure to spend so much time with.

I would like to thank the North Thompson Valley for supporting me throughout the duration of my candidacy, and reign as the 60th Miss North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Queen for 2009-2010, and for my journey throughout the British Columbia Ambassador Program. Thank you to the individuals who donated and sponsored me through my campaign, I would not have been able to complete this experience without your generosity. Thank you to the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and Ambassador Program for your sponsorship and continued support as I have represented the North Thompson Valley and Fall Fair with honour and pride.

My experiences in my 19 years have allowed me to accomplish the things I have dreamed of my entire life. Thank you to all who have made it possible, I will continue to promote the North Thompson Valley and the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo as it is something I am passionate about.

I am attending Thompson Rivers University in September for my Tourism Management Diploma, I aim to continue to promote tourism in the North Thompson and create advertisement for businesses throughout the Valley. Thank you once again to the entire North Thompson Valley, if anyone would like to purchase a DVD copy of the entire British Columbia Ambassador Program please contact me at kaylaholowaychuk@gmail.com.   Meet the candidates here;http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugrO-s9nYes
