Cantelon unsure if he will run again

Liberal MLA to remain mum about his plans until the fall

When voters go to the polls to cast their ballots in the next provincial election, it isn’t clear whose name is going to be listed beside the Liberal logo.

That’s because incumbent Ron Cantelon remains undecided about whether or not he will seek a third term in Victoria.

Cantelon, still recovering from a heart attack he suffered last October, said it’s too early to say whether he’ll throw his hat in the ring.

“I said before that I won’t make that decision until the fall and I’m still working on it. I’m recovering nicely and I’m quite happy with the outcomes I’ve seen.”

Cantelon did let slip some hints that he hasn’t ruled out another kick at the electoral can.

“People are responding well to the Oceanside Health Centre and I’m working on low-barrier housing in Nanaimo,” he said. “I’ve also talked to (Parksville mayor) Chris Burger about trails and parks he would like to establish in Parksville. I like to see projects that help people and the community get done.”
