Celebrate the majestic eagle

The Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (MARS) will host its 11th Annual EagleFest on Feb. 27 indoors at the Maritime Heritage Centre 621 N. Island Hwy Campbell River, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme this year is “Ambassador Animals are Wildlife Mentors.”

Guest speakers will include:

  • Dr. Rob Butler, former research scientist and biologist.
  • Dr. Vanessa Craig, senior biologist giving a presentation entitled Bats, Bats, Bats.
  • Gary Allan and his wolf-dogs, Tundra and Meshac.

The annual Photography Contest is sponsored by Photo Tech fotosource. Enter your best photos of Vancouver Island’s birds, plants and other wildlife for a chance to win some exciting prizes.  There will be two categories: BC Native Plants and BC Native Animals. Deadline for the photography contest is Feb. 24 at 5 p.m.

There will be a Kids Zone with various activities, including Face Painting, track making and bird related crafts.  Phoenix the MARS eagle mascot will be on hand to greet the kids and pose for pictures. Our original Tote Bags will be for sale and there will be plenty of hotdogs and chili as well as coffee, tea, etc.

The Comox Valley Conservation Strategy, Tsolum River Restoration and Greenways Land Trust will be on site with displays of their efforts in the community.

In addition, they will give out a door prize every hour.  This family friendly, indoor event is wheel chair accessible and there is ample parking. The event is sponsored by: BC Hydro, Photo Tech fotosource and 97.3 FM the Eagle Radio, Anchor Inn, Interfor, Thrifty Foods, Quality Foods, Panago, Boston Pizza, Moxie’s Grill and Bar, Dominos Pizza and Comox Co-op.
